Story on delivery of goods in trust
The day was slowly drifting by as the sun rose up to meet the sky. The busy streets were full of merchants and their wares. Without ever noticing Rai-19 year old fire-orange-haired, ocean-blue eyes, average figured young man had managed to end up in a minor marketplace, the whole street seemed less living here and as the wares changed from food to livestock, from livestock to slaves he understood why. He had ended up in the slave grounds.
The boy from the dark tragic night before stood on an old wooden box. He smiled and had his back straight. The injuries from before were all covered and he looked around. His master yelled good qualities about him that he had never heard in his life. Today the boy must look good; he must be a prime pick of all the others. He must because anyone, anything was better than being with this man.
This man he called master who beat him wiped him yelled at him insulted him and killed his only love.” “Anyone.Please…” He thought to himself.
A sick feeling rose in his stomach as he studied the poor souls on display. He continued in a slow pace and let himself fall back in the crowds. His earrings tickled against his neck as he turned his head around to search for a way out. His eyes landed on one of the slaves on display.
What caught his eyes was the sight of a beaten and abused body; its owner stood straight and had a smile across his face. The trader was loud, and Rai could see the dark aura around his body. He was trying to sell the boy whom looked to be somewhat around his own age.
The boy looked around into the crowd which was slowly growing to less and less people. His master still stood smiling though. He had too. The slaves glowing green eyes saw 6 or 7 people then 3. Rai soon realized that the people in the crowd disappeared he was left alone. Didn’t anyone want to buy him? He was strong. He smiled while standing and had not done anything to displease his master in this dreary day.
Rai placed his hands in his pockets as he stopped a few meters away from the pair. He felt as if the poor soul was calling out to him, “What should I do?” His blue eyes closed for a moment and the reopened slowly as they settled on the boy.
The boy looked around and finally the smile on his face disappeared and so did the shine in his eyes. “Not today…” He told himself as he looked to the dirt and glass on the ground.
“Maybe…next time… He wondered if there was a next time. He knew his master would beat him daily after this, as if it was the slaves fault for not being sold. He would die…he would die and be with his love that was the plan.
He looked at Rai dead in the eyes as the master began to pull his whip out and yelled the price one last time. “100 dollars y’all hear? 100 fucking dollars take him!” He whipped the boy hard and left his chest bleeding. His eyes green eyes never stopped looking into the man in the street. His eyes where pleading as he straightened up. “Sir.” He said lightly.
He saw the whippings started to rain down over the boy, the trader seemed angered over something the boy did and whipped the boy harder. Whit every beat from the man the anger rose and boiled in Rai’s veins. He thought he saw the lips move as if saying something but Rai didn’t hear what he said, but understood anyway. A plead for help, for someone to rescue him.
As the whip descended down again he swept over the ground with amazing speed and threw out his hand. The whip hit it Rai’s hand with full force, latching around the palm Rai closed his hand and held it firmly in place. He did not look at the boy, afraid to lose what little control over his feelings he had and instead met the surprised eyes of the trader. Rai fished out a bundle of money and threw it before the man.
“That’s 130 dollars, take it or leave it”, he said. His heart beat furiously as he awaited the answer.
The trader looked scared, so frightened in fact that he stepped back and ran. The change jingled and fell from his pocket. People came like rats and scurried to take the money. The man had already grown sweaty and stopped not 6 yards away. “Monster~!” he screamed and pointed to Rai. “Monster~!” He said as the people wrapped his arms up and took him to jail for causing a scene.
The slave looked up at the man. He saw him as a warrior, a hero. He looked in awe as the man held the whip in his hands. He must have been the strongest man in the world.” A hero.” He said to himself. He got up, but quickly back down on his knees partly to bow and partly because the chains around him were so heavy. He bowed his head down and the crowd looked in amazement.
The police settled the crowd quickly, and as that went on could feel their eyes upon the two; their nervous voices were an irritating murmur in the background. The whiplash stung in his hand even though he wore gloves, he let the weapon fall to the ground. Before him now bowed the wounded boy, still in chains, blood trickling down the sides.
“Those chains are a problem,” he thought and a heartbeat later he fished up some of his lock picks and bowed down beside the boy. Years of experience from thieving paid off as the last of the chains fell to the ground with a rattling. “Not to complicate locks.” Rai put away his tools as he silently regarded the bowing red head.
A feeling of wanting to protect the boy overcame him once again. Still hunched down he reached out his hand, noticing his instance yet faint smile, and lifted the boys face so that he could see it.
Rai had a mind full of thoughts as well, he had no idea how to handle this whole thing, and it was a long time ago since he had cared for any ones well -being, except for his own. That time seemed to be so far in the past now. He shook his head to clear his thoughts. “It’s alright”, he said as friendly as he could.
The boy before him was badly beaten, abused. He saw both old scars and new. Once again anger welled up to the surface. What am I supposed to do now?” The boy obviously needed to take care of his wounds, but he just kneeled there, staring. Rai turned his head up to the sky where the clouds slowly drifted by and closed his eyes. With a deep breath he gathered his feelings and looked down on the boy again.
“Can you stand?” he wondered, “is you badly wounded?”
Beaten badly? This man must have never been beaten in his life. He thought, surprised. He watched the man. And closed his eyes. In his own mind the voice of the other appeared. What am I supposed to do now He heard the man’s thoughts, echoing and frowned? He’s angry at me…like my other master…but not as bad. He got up. “Sir, I can stand. I can…you don’t have to take care of me. I will just tend to you and later…I’ll fix myself up…” He smiled.
The words spoken surprised he, this boy was set in serving him as a master. Yet again he studied the boy. He stood before him without caring for his own injuries, smiling at him. This was not one of my smart moves.
