Story on violence by a woman
Tabitha opened her eyes, but everything appeared dark and muddled. She was almost completely submerged in darkness. A lone thought drifted aimlessly through her empty skull, and it asked whether or not she was really still alive.
As her vision gradually returned and her senses stirred awake, she tried to take a gulp of air. At least that would be a sign to her that she was still in her mortal body. Instead of receiving oxygen, however, her lungs were filled with a thick, partially sweet liquid, like the air had been replaced with syrup while she’d slept.
Tabitha started to cough and sputter, but more of the syrup started to fill her throat, even going into her nose and ears. She couldn’t even manage a strangled cry. Outstretching her hands in front of her, Tabitha discovered she could touch some kind of soft wall; she was inside of a container. In desperation, the overweight warrior started to bang her fists against the wall.
The syrup was flowing all over her body, inside of her it moved, and she could almost feel it like it was writhing and testing her. As if it was alive. It flowed over her eyes, under her eyelids, under her nails. It seeped into the very pores of her skin.
Tabitha’s struggles were beginning to look ever more fruitless, and her stamina started to leave her.
Suddenly, the wall peeled back, blinding Tabitha as her world filled with white. She felt strong hands grab hold of her and lift her up to the sun.
“Alright, I have you now. Calm down, calm down. You are safe now.”
Tabitha sputtered. She regurgitated the syrup from deep inside her throat, the same hand that had saved her now patting her back, like a parent trying to help a newborn burp.
“Can you hear me?” asked an unknown woman’s voice.
Tabitha forced her head to bob up and down.
“That’s good, but you had awoken too soon, Gaea says. There must have been some sort of malfunction. The Dew has not finished healing all of your wounds. You must go back inside and sleep for a little while longer.”
Even as she hacked up more of this ‘Dew’ from the depths of her belly, Tabitha attempted to form words in a desperate plea for her life, “N…No…Please…don’t…”
“You must go.”
“Stop…!”
Tabitha tried to claw at the woman’s neck, or what she assumed was the neck. Her eyes had still yet to adjust to the sunlight. Nonetheless, her innate desire to live, a desire that all living beings shared, drove her to try and fight back, even though her energy was so sapped that her blows must have been no less stronger than a toddler’s. Nonetheless, it seemed to startle her ‘attacker’, who let out a shriek.
“W-What in the world are you doing?” Her grip on Tabitha released.
Tabitha hit something hard, her fall stopping short, and she knew without question that it was the ground. It was quite solid, but while there was pain that rode up her spine, it did feel like a refreshing reminder that she had survived.
Finally, her eyes began to regain their sight, allowing her to witness her surroundings for the first time since awakening. Tabitha sat up.
A woman was bending over her, gripping at her neck with one hand. However, as her features became more distinct in Tabitha’s watery eyes, the tubby warrior realized that the woman was far from normal in appearance.
The woman had large, shiny black eyes, with thick eyelashes like weeds sprouting around them. Her hair was a bright emerald green. She did not possess any human hair, but instead an imitation of such, crafted from wiry branches with leaves that hung limply off her skull.
Her attire, a simple nurse’s uniform, was crafted from very cheap leather, some foliage mixed in for color’s sake. Her nose was very small. When this unnatural woman reached out with her blossom-pink fingernails, Tabitha started to scuttle herself away, the terror plain on her face. She could not keep herself composed right now, her reputation as adventurer is damned.
“You…you…!”
“Please, you must calm yourself down. To stress you further this way may cause new injuries to occur.”
“Get away from me!” Tabitha reached for her hip, but she should have realized before she even placed her hand there that her spear would be gone. She was defenseless.
“Please-“
“Where is this place? Who are you? Where are my comrades? What happened to us? What are you planning to do to us? What was that weird liquid; I couldn’t even breathe, it was like it was strangling me!”
“It’s Dew; it’s meant to heal you. You have to relax and allow it to run its course, or else it will become agitated and consider you an enemy. You were supposed to remain comatose until your healing was complete. All of your thrashing had made it become unstable.”
“None of what you’re saying is making any sense! Dew? I’ve never heard of anything like that! And it still doesn’t answer any of the dozen other questions I have!”
The flowery woman stared long and hard at the warrior. “First of all, are you really so afraid right now that you have not noticed your wounds yet?”
Tabitha looked down, and she saw it; a deep cut across her right rib, now reopened and seeping with blood. She was suddenly overcome with a dull pain, as if it had been lying in wait behind a curtain all this time.
She must have been distracted, to ignore her injury for this long, and now it was starting to hit her all at once. In fact, with each passing second, as the ‘Dew’ on her skin dried and evaporated, the pain became increasingly worse.
Tabitha placed her hand over the wound, feeling the blood bubble and spill through the gaps between her fingers. The blood was getting all over her love-handles. Tabitha’s face started to turn white.
“…Ouch…”
“You need to go back into the Dew. Now.” The flowery woman approached, just as Tabitha finally blacked out.
