Story on Balbutient stammering
The world seemed to shatter like fragile glass around me. I ran from where the men were tearing apart my life, killing my mother and father. With my brother and sister behind me, we dashed with all our might from the terror behind us. Tears streamed hot down my cool cheeks. I was dressed in pajamas meant for summer, and it was the dead of winter.
I shivered as my sister went in front of me and opened the nearest manhole and jumped in, I followed her and my brother closed it behind him. I was hyperventilating because I couldn’t breathe evenly. My sister went down one corridor and went through a door at the end of the hall, we followed her through. Inside was the vampire lair we were looking for.
It’s been 13 long, sad and torturous years since that night, and we have lived with our father’s coven since. They didn’t care the three of us were only half-vampire, we planned to be turned when we hit 20 if everything went as planned. The three of us were triplets, and now we are 18 years old.
We were 5 the night of the vampire hunter attack on our parents. Those vampire hunters killed our mother because they hadn’t realized that she was a mere human. And when we were 5, we didn’t have the power to help them. My heart probably will never heal because of that night, and I will seek revenge on the ones who killed my parents.
I woke up the next morning to the smell of fresh venison blood, it made my mouth water. I could also smell cooked venison, just for us. I moaned as I got out of bed, I was stiff and sore from yesterday’s training session.
I stretched out my sore muscles. Dawn and Nathan had already gone for breakfast. I fixed my bed quickly, got dressed in a black ensemble of my black crop tank, which fitted tightly, and black stretch pants. I was slipping on my black combat boots as Dawn came bursting through the door.
“Ella! There’s been an attack on the west side!” She said, slightly out of breath. I pushed past her immediately and pounded down the hall, using my invisibility. I surely didn’t want to be seen, for it could be someone looking for me.
“Ella, don’t use your invisibility, the elders need to know where you are!” she said as I ran down the corridor to the west side. I groaned as I undid my invisibility spell, and becoming visible once again. I hated not being able to do as I wish, but the elders are always right. I could hear screams blasting from within the west side. A scent hit my nose, hard.
I couldn’t lay my finger on it. I was too distracted by the chaos. But the smell came to the front of my mind. It was the retched vampire hunter that killed my parents. My sight turned red tinted with fury and rage.
I spotted the elders, telepathically sent them the message that I was there then turned invisible, moving slowly towards the hunters.
I had my dagger in my hand, then I was suddenly picked up by one of the hunters, I became visible and started kicking as they tried to tie my wrists with the wood rope I knew hunters owned. One came behind me and knocked me out with a cloyingly sweet scent. The last thing I remember is them stuffing me into a sack.
I woke up in a dark room. All I could see was children’s toys. I had been discarded on a small pile of plush toys. I heard steps thundering up the steps, I assumed I was in an attic by the way the ceiling sloped up to a point.
I heard the door handle being turned softly, and I leaned back pretending to still be asleep. I peeped through my eyelashes. It was Chelsea. Traitor! I sat up straight, and stared fiercely at her.
My feet were tied to the floor with wood infused ropes. Dang it! She’s good at this. I wondered if she’d been involved in my parent’s murder. I looked up at her small face; she was like a little doll. She looked porcelain because of the vampiric paleness. And her deep blue eyes looked like glass as well.
“Well hello, sweet Ella” she said in her soft, small voice. She sat down next to me, shifting her doll-like dress. I literally thought she was a doll, I think they gave me drugs or something. I growled, and she stroked my hair.
My hands were tied so I had no choice but to let her do as she wished with me. I looked at her shiny blonde hair, with its natural bouncy curls. Mine was a chocolate brown with less bouncy, looser curls; I had a weird obsession with hair.
Her frilly dress was tickling my thigh. I was still wearing my thin training outfit. I wondered what they wanted with me; there was nothing special about me.
“Ella, my dear, you’re wrong, but we’ll discuss that later.” She could read my thoughts as well. She dropped her hand she’d been using to stroke my hair to her lap. She got up and gracefully went across the floor to the door.
As she passed the threshold, she flashed her doll-like smile at me and bounded down the steps. I could hear the steps as she went down.
I wiggled to get out of my bindings. It resulted in my wrists and ankles feeling on fire. Well it could’ve been worse; I could’ve been turned yesterday.
I sighed and leaned back against the toys, thinking of my escape plan. I closed my eyes; I think I fell asleep because I sat upright to the sound of thudding footsteps. Definitely not Chelsea, probably one of her Hench men.
I sighed and tried to get comfy. I knew it’d be a while before I could get out of my bindings and beat Chelsea’s butt. The person who walked in was, well, downright handsome. I could feel my cheeks get hot with embarrassment. I looked at my feet as he closed the door. He made his way over to where I sat.
“I’m here to help you” I blinked up at his bright green eyes. “W-what?” I stammered idiotically. Idiot, stupid, retard! I screamed at myself in my head. He smiled and pulled a knife out of his pocket and cut the rope.
He pulled me to could hear the drunken voices of the guards. We slipped past the room where they sat, drinking heavily.
When we finally made it to the front door, he opened it slowly. He and I started running from that point. I didn’t know where we were heading but I felt I could trust that green eyed stranger.
When we finally rested, the sun had set hours ago. The stranger made a lean-to so that he could tear it down in the morning before we headed off again. I drank the blood of a deer I caught. I looked over to where the stranger sat, looking at a map.
I couldn’t tell if he was human or not, but I decided it didn’t matter. Unless he didn’t know about me. I shuttered before I took another sip. The blood healed my sore muscles quickly. I used a special spell to give the blood healing properties.
My feet and motioned for me to follow. He and I made our way down the carpeted stairs.
